NaNoWriMo

Well, my friend and coworker, Roma, has been the only one bugging me about posting to this blogspot. Thanks, Roma!

Came across an article on the web about blog content. So, I'll start with her suggestions as I'm sure no one cares what I had for lunch or watched on TV last night.

I struck out on my first trek with NaNoWriMo...National Novel Writing Month. Happens every November and I've known about it for a few years, but never felt the desire to put this pressure on myself on top of the rest of life.

What's the pressure? A 50,000 word count novella by November 30th. Yike! As of November 7, I'm just over 2.3% of the way there. My goal should have been about 1700 words per day. I'm only about 11,000 words behind. Huge sigh here....

I can say that I am playing the game honestly. I started within the month of November. All words will be written within the month of November. I started a brand new book created out of my imagination. I've been playing with the idea of a mystery written with Smith Mountain Lake as the setting, but my past writing used the cabin we own as the backdrop.

This new book uses a fabricated location on the lake, a B&B owned by a retired reverend and his wife situated across the cove from a 'haunted' boathouse. I have 4 characters on the scene so far:
Elle, the protagonist
Charles, the moody cowboyish stranger that's a fellow guest at the B&B
Reverend Appleman, the B&B owner
The Rev's wife...no name yet

One scene partially written and a little tension built in already. I feel a lot more freedom to create with this fictional backdrop. It's a mysterious, moody location that shares a similar view to the cabin we vacation in so we're looking at the same thing, but the environments we see life from are very different.

One thing I have learned in the little bit of blogging I've done so far. Blogging keeps you away from the business of writing.

If Roma bugs me, I may post again soon!

Blessings,

Claryce
